Will petrol prices in UAE increase, hit Dh4 a litre in May?

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which threatens about a fifth of world oil output and is surrounded by more countries producing oil than all the Gulf, has made an 'oil price shock' as severe as those in earlier times when turmoil erupted in the Middle East.

Since late February, demand and supply fell off a cliff as the overwhelming closure of the Strait of Hormuz has taken out 10-13 million barrels per day — or about 12 per cent of world output — in the most severe disruption to energy flows since an OPEC crisis in the 1970s.
