Sphere Abu Dhabi’s completion date has just been announced
Abu Dhabi revelers, the capital's entertainment game is about to get a very high leveling in a futuristic way of life.
And now we have an important update as DCT Abu Dhabi has announced that construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2029.
Sphere Abu Dhabi just made a huge leap towards actualization earlier this May 2026 when Sphere Entertainment Co. (the same group responsible for the glowing wonder sphere in Vegas) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) confirmed that its moving ahead with construction plans.
Fresh off their jaw dropping Las Vegas Sphere, the masterminds have taken on their next big venture right here in Abu Dhabi and yes, it really is going to be huge. So what is the wonder of watching? So here is what we know so far about Sphere Abu Dhabi…
Where will Sphere Abu Dhabi be located?
Yas Island (where else) in Abu Dhabi has been decided for Sphere Abu Dhabi, but DCT Abu Dhabi has shared some additional details that pinpoint its location.
While it's yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that it'll sit on a plot of land between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.
What exactly is the Sphere?
In case you missed it, the Las Vegas Sphere (which opened in November 2023) is a gigantic smart dome slash concert hall slash immersive cinema sales pitch slash awesome next generation chunk of architecture. Holding almost 20,000 people and having visuals so clear they make your phone screen look horrid it quickly became one of the most talked about attractions in the world.
In 2023 alone Sphere in Vegas hosted over 24 million people. Witnessing the response of the first sphere built outside of the US, Abu Dhabi is now preparing to host it.
What will happen at Sphere Abu Dhabi?

supported by Flexible Configurations to Host Everything From Combat Sports to Conferences to Launch Product
Sphere will utilize its innovative experiential technologies to power all events.
What else do we know about Sphere Abu Dhabi?

Phase of design: Finally, the pre construction phase is being finalized so we'll reveal exact location on Yas Island and opening date very soon.
The Abu Dhabi Sphere will accommodate about 20,000 over an unprecedented massaging capability, just like in Vegas it is ranked between the largest and state of the art live entertainment venue of its type in the region.
Technology: The latest sound and spectacles that may lead you into imploding time.
Budget: The estimated cost at construction stage is US$1.7 billion
The idea is for a venue that stays busy throughout the year with concerts, residencies and experiences you know will draw crowds.
Smaller spheres are also going to be launching soon. In addition to the mega domes such as ones in Vegas and Abu Dhabi, Sphere Entertainment is also developing smaller versions that will deliver similar content to more locations. This means that not only will the shows made for Abu Dhabi's Sphere be screened on, ahem, mini Spherical threads across the globe in due course. Pretty wild.
Why Abu Dhabi?
The capital has been flexing its muscles on the global entertainment scene — from Formula 1 to UFC, mega concerts to Saadiyat cultural district and Yas Island parks. To make matters worse, the Sphere is basically that giant lit cherry (or dome) on top.
