UAE seeks clarification on truce, says Iran must commit to halting 'terrorist' attacks

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) issued a statement on Wednesday, the same day as the announcement of a two-week ceasefire in the US-Israel-Iran war, that it was important to have no tolerance for Iranian aggression against civilians and to hold Tehran accountable.

The UAE urged further details on the terms of the agreement "to ensure Iran's complete commitment to an immediate halt of all hostilities in the region and the total with no preconditions reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," it said, adding that it is closely monitoring US President Donald Trump's announcement over a 14-day ceasefire.

Over the past 40 days, since the outbreak of conflict on February 28, 2026, Iran's attacks against the UAE focused primarily on infrastructure, energy facilities and civilian sites with a total of 2.819 ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones struck or flew in direction to those mentioned strategic targets. The attack killed 13 people and injured 224 others.

In its statement, Mofa, underlined "the need for a comprehensive and sustained approach that goes to the heart of Iran’s full spectrum of threats", including "its nuclear capabilities, ballistic missiles, drones, military capabilities and its affiliates proxies and terrorist groups — Key factors in the Iranian regime's activity" besides "ending threats to freedom of navigation as well as economics warfare and piracy in Hormuz guile".

The Ministry also noted its hope for sustainable peace between all countries of the region, affirming that it was not a party to this war and had engaged in extensive diplomatic efforts to prevent its outbreak, both bilaterally and within the GCC.

It also maintained that the UAE has firmly protected its sovereignty, stability and national achievements, noting the importance of Iran's full compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) — passed on March 11, 2026 — which condemned Iranian aggressions and demanded their immediate halt.
