Three injured as debris hits Habshan gas complex in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi authorities later said on their Twitter account that three people suffered mild injuries after some debris fell at the Habshan gas facility, and confirmed the UAE's air defence systems had successfully intercepted a threat.

Two Emiratis and one Indian national were treated for minor injuries, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office. The debris also ignited multiple fires at the facility, which temporarily suspended operations while safety and response teams evaluated the scene.

Abu Dhabi authorities “can confirm that it was due to falling debris after the successful interception by air defence systems,” said the statement. “Operations are suspended, and more updates will come in due course.”

The emergency team responded to a debris incident in the early hours of Wednesday, as air defences were activated by the Ministry of Defence, which had warned of missile and drone attack threats from Iran.

It is meanwhile a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, with Tehran allowing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides have declared victory and will meet in Pakistan’s Islamabad on Friday.

Highlighting the precariousness of the accord, explosions occurred on Wednesday morning in UAE, Qatar and Bahrain while authorities blamed “Iranian aggression”.

The Egyptian man was killed as the facility was being evacuated, while two Egyptians and two Pakistanis received minor injuries, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office. “There has been significant damage to the facilities, and an assessment is in progress,” the office said.

Adnoc Gas, in a statement on Sunday, said it was addressing domestic demand in the UAE through its other facilities after Friday's attack caused debris to fall on the Habshan complex.

Operations at the gas facility had also been temporarily halted following a prior attack on March 19 as authorities manage two other debris-falling incidents after successful missile interceptions.

The Bab oil field was also attacked on the same day in the latest wave of assaults, with no one reported injured.
