The state-run news agency Kuna reported on Thursday that Kuwait reopened its airspace at Kuwait International Airport from this evening, allowing the resumption of flights in a gradual manner after approximately two months of closure.

The suspension since February 28, which was imposed as a precaution because of developments in the region, has been phased out with immediate effect. It will start the gradual reopening of Terminals 4 and 5 from Sunday to chosen states.

"This action is taken in coordination with the concerned local and international authorities to resume operations as planned, according to the highest safety and security standards," said Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al Sabhad, Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority.

He said the reopening is part of a phased and careful approach to resuming air traffic, with full operations expected to normalise over time.

Damage assessments were carried out following the "Iranian attack" and armed groups affiliated with it, authorities said, adding that technical teams were conducting maintenance and repairs to make them operational.

The first operations will focus on chosen destinations as per operational requirements, with all phases to be evaluated before they are expanded further.

Sheikh Hamoud lauded efforts exerted by aviation staff and government entities in handling the situation, quickly tackling it and speeding recovery beckoning appreciation of Saudi supportive stance providing for Kuwaiti carriers through its airports.

He also pointed out coordination between GCC states that ensured the continuity of air traffic during this time, noting support received from political leadership was pivotal in reviving the airport.
