Crime, disturbance reports fall in Q1 2026: Dubai Police
Dubai — The number of notices for criminal and disturbing reports fell across Dubai during the first batch of 2026, with Dubai Police owing the improvement to proactive security strategies and advanced crime prevention measures.
Major General Hareb Mohammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief For Criminal Affairs, stated that the results, which were achieved by the general department of criminal investigation and oriented in a comprehensive manner through preventive actions & combined field and analytical efforts, led to lower crime drivers and reassured the community.
Focus on fraud and cybercrime
The ability of criminals to adapt their methods, and the increasing scale of fraud and cybercrime, necessitated enhanced efforts in areas such as public awareness campaigns, monitoring and analytical capabilities, cybersecurity systems (those to prevent solve those crimes) and speedier response readiness, Major General Al Shamsi said.
He said that these steps were aimed at enhancing civil, digital and personal security of people while increasing public awareness on transportation against fraud and cyber intrusion.
High-level review meeting
The comments were made in a first-quarter performance review of the General Department of Criminal Investigation. The meeting was attended by Major General Eid Mohammad Hareb, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs; Major General Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Mualla, Director of the General Department of Excellence and Leadership; Brigadier Ahmad Al Muhairi, Director of the Inspection and Control Department; as well as department directors and officers.
The meeting included a review of the key performance indicators, implementation of previous decisions, analysis of first-quarter reports and also included oversight of the overall security situation in the emirate. Operational improvements, existing projects, and field related difficulties were also discussed.
Targeted initiatives reduce crime
Major General Al Shamsi said qualitative initiatives had a direct impact in driving down crime and checking negative behaviours. They include strong measures for security, corrective activities and awareness programmes under the initiative “Reconciliation is Best” as well dark area operations targeting both hotspots and illegal activities.
He commented that these efforts have:
- Improved community awareness regarding legal aspects
- Settlement of conflicts by civilized means
- Increased preparedness of field teams
- Accelerated response times
- Enhanced police presence in specific precincts
He said this has assisted in preventing offenders and assisting authorities to catch suspects before a crime is carried out.
Data-driven policing
Al Shamsi called for constant analysis of both conventional and cybercrime trends over time, future forecasting and forecasts through accurate indicators to aid decision-making.
