UAE to decide on May 10 if schools and universities continue distance or in-person learning

The model of learning, in-person or remote for the next academic term will be announced on May 10, said UAE's Ministry of Education. The country's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research also announced that the model for higher educational institutions is expected to be declared on Sunday evening.

Keeping in view the ongoing situation, a decision will be made in consultation with the concerned authorities as to when examinations can resume, officials said. The authority confirmed and examinations of these international tests will take place physically "in line with the approved plans".

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai also announced they would issue instructions on May 10 concerning distance or on-campus learning at all private schools.

UAE on May 5 had announced that all schools and higher educational institutions in the country will go online temporarily from May 5 to May 8

This decision followed new emergency alerts announced to the UAE population on May 4 after Iran had resumed its attacks after almost a month. Later in the day, the UAE confirmed that air defences had intercepted and destroyed a total of 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and four drones fired from Iran on May 4.

Safety of educational community

The authorities have insisted repeatedly that all decisions are made with consideration for both the continuity of learning, and staff and student safety.

Here too, the country's educational institutions are on call to shift from one mode of learning to another depending on circumstances and if needed. The transition is progressive and organized, thanks to online systems as schools and colleges are prepared to promptly take decisions

For some educational leaders, learning lessons from the pandemic era has allowed them to smooth out problems related to remote systems and respond accordingly.
