UAE rejects allegations that Emirati drone was involved in Sudan airport attack
The UAE labelled as "unfounded" the assertion by Sudan that an Emirati drone had been involved in an attack on Khartoum airport and added it was part of a "deliberate propaganda" campaign.
The UAE official said in a statement that there has been a "significant increase" in what he called "groundless allegations" by the Port Sudan Authority (PSA).
He said such "baseless accusations" seriously undermine attempts to reach a peace agreement and bring stability back.
The official went on to describe the allegations as being “part of a deliberate pattern of deflection”, further accusing the PSA of “passing accountability for their turpitude to others”.
These are attempts, the statement said, to "prolong the war and obstruct a sincere peace process".
The UAE also urged the PSA to stop using international forums for "such miscalculations" and instead prioritise (ending) its role in committing acts of harm and murder against the Sudanese people during this tragic civil war.
The BBC reported that Khartoum International Airport was struck on Monday "along with military sites in Greater Khartoum". No injuries were reported.
Sudan has been in the throes of a civil war since April 2023.
The allegations included that the drones had launched from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia, Reuters quoted Sudan's army spokesman as saying. The news agency added that Ethiopia also denied the allegations.
