As summer heat rises, Dubai RTA inspects 895 AC bus shelters in 621 locations

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is also conducting a field campaign for testing the air-conditioned bus shelters and passenger waiting facilities in preparation for summer 2026 when temperatures peak across the emirate.

With teams examining and sustaining systems to guarantee best facility operations throughout instances of maximum warmth, the marketing campaign spans 895 shelters in 621 sites. The authority said: "This campaign is not just a case of carrying out routine checks. There are provisions to provide more funding for air-conditioned shelters, while also ensuring that they are prepared ahead of the summer peak.

And from the standpoint of a commuter, these shelters are not simple waiting areas — often they are the only respite from extreme weather situations outdoors. Dubai has sweltering summer temperatures that routinely exceed 45 °C, and even a small cooling failure can dramatically impair passenger comfort on journeys.

In addition to this, as analysed in the operational plan of RTA, regular visits are also being conducted by the inspectorate staff for this purpose of finding and solving problems on time.
